Novant Healthcare BMX Supercross in Rock Hill, SC played host to three amazing events over the weekend: The USA Cycling Elite National Championship, USABMX Carolina Nationals, and the UCI Continental Championships. Although Redline only had three riders in attendance, World Champion Sam Willoughby, USABMX and USA Cycling National Champion Alise Post, and USA Cycling Junior Elite Champion Collin Hudson, their presence was felt heavily on the podium all weekend!

Sam Carolina

The weekend started with the USA Cycling National Championship and Alise Post chasing her 5th straight Elite Women’s title. The women ran a three race, total points format and after the second final, Alise found herself in a virtual tie with her 2012 Olympic teammate, Brooke Crain, and GT’s Felicia Stancil. When the gate dropped, Alise shot into the lead and held off a hard charge from Brooke to retain the “stars and stripes” sleeve of the U.S. National Champion!

Alise Natty Champs

Saturday was the start of the USABMX Carolina National and the inaugural race of their new North American Supercross series. With the richest purse in USABMX history on the line ($20k for Elite Men and $10k for Elite Women), riders from around the world showed up in force to fight for a piece of the prize! With no Junior Elite class, eighteen year old Collin Hudson gated with the Elites and raced extremely well, but a 5th place finish in the quarter final ended his day a little earlier than he had hoped. Sam and Alise, on the other hand, went undefeated all day and stood tall on top of the podium, both taking home huge wins and the lion’s share of the purse!

The UCI Continental Championship was held on Sunday and was reserved for riders from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, leaving Sam on the sidelines to drink coffee and cheer on his American teammates. Alise and Collin did not disappoint, as they both managed to deliver impressive wins in Elite Women and Junior Elite Men, earning themselves valuable UCI points. With the 2016 Rio Olympics just over the horizon, this is exactly how they needed to start their UCI season!
Congratulations to the team for a fantastic weekend and to USABMX, USA Cycling, UCI, and Novant Healthcare SX for a first class event. Next stop for Redline is the USABMX Super Nationals, coming up this weekend in Desoto, TX. Safe travels to everyone and we’ll see you there!
