For 2016, USABMX reintroduced a classic and longtime favorite race to the national line-up, The Lone Star Nationals, and brought it to Central Texas BMX in the Austin suburb of Pflugerville. USABMX and the Travis County Parks Department teamed up to build the grandest track in Texas and upon arrival, fans and riders alike were in awe of the sheer size of the track and facility! Track operator, Jason Crouch, and his crew have worked tirelessly to get the 1230ft track in tip-top shape for its inaugural national, and it didn’t take long for their efforts to be tested! A powerful storm blew through Friday morning, drenching the area and destroying pit row in the process. Races were delayed by three hours, but eventually got underway, and thanks to a fresh coat of slurry the track held up to the abuse and racing went on at full speed!
Due to the UCI World Cup season that is in full swing, Sam and Alise were resting and prepping for stop #2 this weekend in Manchester, so that left Hunter Pelham and Jason Carnes to hold down the Redline fort and represent their home state. In the largest pro class of the weekend, A-Pro, Hunter manhandled the qualifying rounds and semi-finals both days, earning a 6th place finish in Saturday’s final and a one-better 5th on Sunday. After rebuilding the pit area on Friday, Carnes replaced his tool belt with a Troy Lee Designs D3 helmet and pulled off a double-win on Saturday. The streak came to an end on Sunday when a 2nd place was all he could muster.
We look forward to getting the entire team back together in three weeks at the Carolina Nationals in Rock Hill, SC! It will be stop #2 of the USABMX North America SX Series, so the squad will be looking for big action and chasing big money.
Hats off to the Central Texas BMX and USABMX crew for turning things around and bringing us a great event this weekend! Thanks to the fans, racers, and rampers for helping us get it done, and especially to our great team sponsors: IRC Tire, Troy Lee Designs, Box, Promax, KMC, Alienation, Tioga, and Kool Stop! See you all in Rock Hill!
