Sunny skies and a tacky- fast course greeted the Elite racers at Fort Steilacoom yesterday in Lakewood, Washington.

After the first lap the race boiled down to Elite riders Morgan Schmitt, Steve Fisher, and Redlines Logan Owen. Many attacks were thrown down by Fisher and Owen, with Schmitt dropped by 6 seconds or so, but Schmitt dug deep to get back to the leaders.

In the end Fisher and Owen got clear and then the duel began. In the grass field before the finishing stretch is a series of serpentine turns where each rider is trying to out corner the other. Both Fisher and Owen did their best to shed the other but neither was going to be displaced. Fisher had the advantage coming of the last barrier where Owen bobbled not getting his foot in the pedals after the last barrier before a corner and then the straightaway finish. Fisher had a two bike length lead as he hit the final straight away pavement finishing stretch.

So it all came down to a 200 meter sprint between a leading Steve Fisher and a hard charging Logan Owen, with Logan nipping Fisher by a tire width at the line by virtue of a bike throw. The race was so close that a video camera on the line was reviewed to determine the winner.
