"For light trail riding as well as rougher roads a good alternative to a pure mountain bike is a cyclocross bike. Just don’t call them a "hybrid," because unlike the part mountain bike / part road bike—which was really neither—the cyclocross can still rip it up on the paths and roll down the road. These bikes were designed for a special type of course racing, with mandatory dismounts and short obstacles. Redline has been the industry leader on this front. And here’s an irony: the bikes tend to cost less than road or mountain bikes. The Team is the top-end model of the company’s Conquest line, and it features a double-butted alloy frame with carbon rear stays, and SRAM Force components. Even if you like to go it alone, this one will make you into a team player."
